Safeguarding
Adult safeguarding is about working with an individual at risk to reduce or remove the risk of abuse or neglect
Safeguarding children is defined in Working Together to Safeguard Children as: protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of children's health or development, ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
An individual or child could be considered at risk if their behaviour or environment increases their likelihood of a fire. In these cases a safeguarding referral to the local council is appropriate together with a referral to the local Fire Service so they can undertake a Home Fire Safety Visit.
However, there may be cases where a safeguarding referral may not be appropriate as the person is or family are, completely able to manage their environment and just need advice and perhaps a smoke alarm. In these cases they can either buy their own smoke alarm or refer to your local the Fire Service and they may fit one and provide fire prevention advice.
